How to determine, is Apps Bug or Standard functionality

One of my clients had an issue, that is, when user creates new order by copying an old order with BOM configuration, system creates new order with different order line items. Client worried that it is an error?

First we need to go over little bit of the overview of apps functionality.

Let us take manufacturing industry, it will have engineering department, which does the design and will come up with BOM components, operation sequence etc. Once that design gets approved, WIP and BOM will get activated with new configuration.

So if users copies the old order where the BOM got revised by engineering dept. and now has different configuration, it is meaningless for Oracle to continue with old components so Oracle always explode the BOM with new components so it can flow to WIP and get completed and shipped.

This is standard functionality.

What is the solution if user wants to do conversion of old orders, we will talk about that tomorrow.
